The Independence Visitor Center is the result of a cooperative effort among many area organizations, all committed to ensuring that your visit to the Philadelphia region is wonderful and memorable.

PARKING:
The Autopark at Independence Mall is open 24-hours-a-day with entrances at 5th and 6th Streets between Market and Arch Streets. Maximum height clearance for vehicles is 6' 6". Parking is also available at the National Constitution Center at 5th and Arch Streets.

MISSION:
The Independence Visitor Center is the primary point of orientation for Independence National Historical Park (INHP), the City of Philadelphia, the Southern New Jersey and Delaware River waterfront, as well as Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania.

FUNDING:
The $38 million Independence Visitor Center was funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Delaware River Port Authority, the Annenberg Foundation, the Connelly Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

OPERATION:
The Independence Visitor Center Corporation is a Pennsylvania non-profit, 501(c)3 organization which operates in cooperation with the efforts of the National Park Service, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Independence Store: The gift shop in the Independence Visitor Center is one of largest in the region.

Concierge Staff: Experienced Concierge Staff provide expert trip planning assistance. Many rangers from the National Park Service and experienced tourism representatives are waiting to help you at the information desk. You'll always find a friendly face here at the Visitor Center Information Desk. The Concierge Staff has 700-plus years of combined experience in visitor services!

Interesting Statistics
  • Independence Visitor Center is approximately 50,000 square feet - two city blocks long from north to south. It's approximately the same size as 42 colonial homes on Elfreth's Alley.
  • The building uses more than three miles of conduit to operate the audio-visual and trip planning displays.

Site History: Some of the historic Philadelphia residents who lived on the same block as the Independence Visitor Center during the American Revolution include: Dr. Caspar Wistar, the renowned anatomist and intellectual; Robert Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence and financier; Philip Marin Freneau, poet of the revolution and friend of Benjamin Franklin; as well as Haym Saloman, financier of the revolution.
