Independence Visitor Center
Announces the Opening of First Art Exhibit

(Philadelphia, PA) January 22, 2010 – The Independence Visitor Center, located at 6th & Market streets, across from the Liberty Bell, is set to launch its first-ever art exhibit entitled, “Art at the Center”. The exhibit, which opens February 6, 2010 and runs for several weeks, will be located in the recently renovated internet café, and will feature the artwork of students from Holy Family University.

“The students were excited by the chance to show their art in such a prominent venue,” said Pamela Flynn, art professor at Holy Family University. “We are looking forward to a continued relationship with the Independence Visitor Center in order to give our students’ artwork much more visibility, and to beautify the Center with local art.”

The new area, with its 20 feet of display space, opened April 6, 2009, and is designed to accommodate a steady influx of visitors – almost three million last year alone – and encourage visitors to “Explore Philadelphia and the Countryside” through engaging interactive displays, video presentations on local attractions, an expanded café with ample seating, and satellite gift shop.

The addition of two exhibit walls offers the opportunity for local artists to display their works in one of the most heavily-trafficked buildings in Philadelphia. The exhibits will rotate every two months, and the Independence Visitor Center is currently working to install artwork from the Mural Arts Program in April.
