Here's How YOU Beat the Heat!
# 5 “Sip chilled wine at your own cool picnic at the Mann Music Center!” (Rosemarie De Angelis, Blackwood, NJ)
# 4 “My favorite way to beat the heat of summer is to take a bottle of water and stroll through Fairmount Park’s Valley Green area where the shade of the trees is abundant.” (Jackie Mimless, Plymouth Meeting, PA)
# 3 “Grab an iced tea, picnic fare and a blanket and head to a shady spot on Carpenter's Hall's lovely lawn. Smell the grass. Read a book, nap or daydream about the slower pace of life in colonial days. When the heat gets heavy, tour the numerous air-conditioned buildings throughout the Independence National Historic park. Cap off the day with a cool hoagie, Philadelphia pretzel and a water ice.” (Ivy Stencler, Philadelphia, PA)

"I suggest going to the Philadelphia Zoo in order to "beat the heat". It is a very entertaining and informative way to spend a day. There are many reasons why you "beat the heat" at the zoo:
• Most of the outdoor walking area is shaded and you can view many of the animals in air conditioned comfort.
• There is plenty of room so the zoo never seems crowded. There is no waiting in line.
• You can see lions and tigers and bears! (and many more).
• The staff is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They will help with any and all questions and even help you locate and identify the animals.
• The healthy walk around the zoo is excellent exercise.
Do not fret
You won't sweat
You'll have fun too
Go to the zoo.
(John Clark, Philadelphia, PA)
# 1 “On a hot day, I like to escape my steamy second floor Bella Vista apartment and spend an afternoon at one of my favorite places in Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Art Museum. The Philadelphia Art Museum is like an old reliable friend to me. The same works of art are always hanging in the same spots in the permanent galleries, and I can go to the museum and spend some time visiting with my favorites. I love to see the 19th Century works of art, especially those of Renoir, and Philadelphia artist Thomas Eakins. It’s so wonderful to be able to just stop and say hello to my old friends! The building is always so wonderfully air conditioned, which is a fantastic escape from the heat. If I feel like it’s getting too chilly, I can take a walk out the back door of the museum down to the beautiful Azalea Gardens and the Water Works. I don’t feel like a visit to the Art Museum is complete without a stop by the gazebo at the Water Works to just watch the Schuylkill River flow by, and to see the rowers afloat on the river in their boats. This inspiring view reminds me of my friend Thomas Eakins’ many paintings of a very similar view. And it makes me smile just thinking of my old reliable friends.” (Karen Silverman, Philadelphia, PA)
Congratulations and thanks for sharing your favorite way to beat the heat!
