This weekend is the beginning of National Flag Week and what better place to celebrate our stars and stripes than in Philadelphia at the home of our flagmaker, Betsy Ross
Sure to be fun for the entire family, "Flag Fest 2009" - A Turn of the Century Celebration will hold an old-fashioned street fair filled with food, games and endless hours of entertainment.
Beginning at 10am, visitors can look forward to dose of nostalgia as you enjoy classic favorites like penny candy and hand dipped cream while brushing elbows with Charlie Chaplin and good ole Uncle Sam. Keep one eye glued to the stage as they will have magic shows, a string band and even an organ grinder complete with a fortune telling monkey!
While here, don’t forget to catch “Play Ball!” A History of Baseball in Philadelphia featuring classic memorabilia from Mitchell & Ness and of course, the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.
And be sure to introduce yourself to Charles Weisgerber, who can take all the credit for saving the home of Betsy Ross over a hundred years ago so that you, I, and countless others can see and hear her wonderful story of patriotism!
