In order to improve your visit to Independence National Historical Park, you now need a timed and dated ticket for your tour of Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed). These tickets streamline your visit and give you more time to see Philadelphia. No tickets are required before March 1. You will need a ticket from March 1st to December 31st, except July 4th, and Thanksgiving day when no tickets are required.
Walk-up tickets are available for free on the day of your visit at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market Streets starting at 8:30 am. The first tour starts at 9:00 am. You may request tickets for any available time, on the day of the visit only. You have the greatest choice of times during the first two hours of the day (8:30 to 10:30 am). Please plan your visit early during the peak season.
One person may request up to ten (10) tickets for a family or small group.
The rest of the family or group does not need to be present when the tickets are picked up. For larger families, one person for each ten (10) people must come to pick up tickets. Everyone in the group needs a ticket, even infants.
Organized tours or school groups may obtain tickets for their entire group. Up to 80 tickets will be given to one teacher or guide. However, you must have confirmation letter on school or organization letterhead for ticket pick up. This letter must list the name of the person authorized to pick up the tickets. Teachers may use a current school ID in lieu of the confirmation letter. Commercial tour operators may use their own company letterhead to obtain tickets. To acquire more than 80 tickets, you will need an additional person and letter. Tickets must be picked up at least 45 minutes before the tour. While one person is in line for the tickets, we recommend that the rest of the group view the exhibits, see the movies, use the restrooms, or visit the store.
Ticket reservations – Tickets may be reserved up to one year in advance through the National Park Reservation system. You may call (1-877-444-6777 or 1-877-559-6777 for group sales) from 10 AM to 12 Midnight Eastern Time or you can use the website at recreation.gov. While tickets to Independence Hall are free, the reservation fee is $1.50 per ticket. The Golden Eagle or National Park Pass does not cover this fee. Teachers or tour leaders may reserve up to 80 tickets on each call, and families may reserve up to ten (10) tickets per call.
Reserved tickets must be picked up at the "Will Call" section of the NPS ticket counter at the Independence Visitor Center (6th and Market Streets). You must claim them (using reservation number and valid identification) at least 45 minutes before the tour on the day of your visit. The "Will Call" section is to the left at the desk. You do not need to wait in the walk-up ticket line. Tickets not picked up 45 minutes before the tour may be released to walk-up visitors. Refunds are only available if the Park cancels a tour and no refunds are given at the Park.
Teachers and tour leaders picking up group reservations do not need to have the group present in the Visitor Center. However, you must have the reservation number, valid identification and a confirmation letter on school or organization letterhead for ticket pick up. This letter must list the name of the person who made the reservation and the name of the person picking up the tickets. Tickets must be picked up at least 45 minutes before the tour.
